Lost Rungs
Aloft I stand
Looking down
Back to the ground
Where I once stood.
From this perch
I see my ladder’s rungs
From my first step
To the last.
However some gaps
Appear here and there
And I wonder
Who put those there.
And then I think
Or perhaps remember
They are lost rungs,
Events forgotten.
I know they were there
For they lead me up
To where I stand here
Looking down to them.
So I let them slide
Into my abyss
For I learned their lesson
Lost rungs forgotten.
Looking down
Back to the ground
Where I once stood.
From this perch
I see my ladder’s rungs
From my first step
To the last.
However some gaps
Appear here and there
And I wonder
Who put those there.
And then I think
Or perhaps remember
They are lost rungs,
Events forgotten.
I know they were there
For they lead me up
To where I stand here
Looking down to them.
So I let them slide
Into my abyss
For I learned their lesson
Lost rungs forgotten.
